Choosing a Trading Style

There are four main styles of trading, namely scalping, day trading, swing trading, and position trading. Technically, scalping is a type of trading within day trading, but scalping is so different from all other forms of day trading, that I consider it to be a separate style. The difference between the styles is based upon the length of time that trades are held for. Scalping trades are only held for a few seconds, or at most a few minutes. Day trading trades are held for anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of hours. Swing trading trades are usually held for a few days. Position trading trades are held for anywhere from a few days to several years.

Choosing the trading style that best suits their personality can be a difficult task for new traders, but is absolutely necessary to their long term success as a professional trader. If you are a new trader (or even an experienced trader) that does not yet feel as though you have found your trading style, the following are some of the personality traits that are compatible with the different styles of trading. By choosing the trading style that best suits your personality, you will have a better chance of being a profitable trader, so be honest, even if you don't like some of the personality traits that are listed.

Scalping

Scalping is a very rapid trading style. Scalpers often make trades within just a few seconds of each other, and often in opposite directions (i.e. they are long one minute, but short the next). Scalping is best suited to active traders that can make immediate decisions and act on those decisions without hesitation. Impatient people often make the best scalpers because they expect their trades to become profitable immediately, and will exit the trade promptly if it goes against them. Being a successful scalper requires focus and concentration, so it is not a suitable trading style for people who are easily distracted or who often find themselves day dreaming (i.e. if you've been thinking about something else while reading this, then scalping is not for you).

Day Trading

Day trading as a style is more suitable for traders that prefer starting and completing a task in the same day. For example, if you were painting your kitchen, and you would not go to bed until the kitchen was finished, even if that meant staying up until 3:00 AM. Many day traders would not consider making swing or position trades because they would not be able to sleep at night knowing that they had an active trade that could be affected by price movements during the night (such as those that cause opening gaps).

Swing Trading

Swing trading is compatible with people that have patience to wait for a trade, but once they have entered a trade they want it to become profitable quite quickly. Swing traders almost always hold their trades overnight, so it is not suitable for people that would be nervous holding a trade while they were away from their computer (i.e. overnight, in the shower, at the movies, etc.). Swing trading generally requires a larger stop loss than day trading, so the ability to keep calm when a trade is against you is a necessity.

Position Trading

Position trading is the longest term trading of all, and often has trades that last for several years. Therefore, position trading is only suitable for the most patient and least excitable traders. Position trading targets are often several thousand ticks, so if your heart starts beating fast when a trade is 25 ticks in profit, position trading is probably not suitable for you. Position trading also requires the ability to ignore popular opinion because a single position trade will often hold through both bull and bear markets. For example, a long position trade may need to be held through an entire year when the general public is convinced that the economy is in a recession. If you are easily swayed by other people, then position trading is going to be difficult for you.

Being Faithful to your Trading Style

Choosing a trading style requires the flexibility to know when a trading style is not working for you, but also requires the consistency to stick with the right trading style even when it is not performing optimally. One of the biggest mistakes that new traders often make is to change trading styles (and trading systems) at the first sign of trouble. Constantly changing your trading style or trading system is a sure way to catch every losing streak. Once you are comfortable with a particular trading style, remain faithful to it, and it will reward you for your loyalty in the long run.

Which Markets can be Day Traded?

There are many different markets available for day trading, including futures, options, currencies, and stock markets. Most people are aware of the stock markets, but few non traders are aware of the many other markets that are available to day traders, many of which are much more popular than the stock markets.
Popular markets

Some of the most popular markets include the following:
.
* Futures based on currencies (Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc)
* Futures based on stock indexes (DAX, Nasdaq)
* Futures based on commodities (oil, gold, wheat)
* Options on futures
* Currencies (Euro to US Dollar, Euro to British Pound)

Note that there are no stock markets listed in the above list. This is because the SEC (the US securities and exchange commission) has placed restrictions on the day trading of US stocks. Details of these restrictions can be found in the day trading glossary.

Exchanges and Brokerages

All of the day trading markets are provided via exchanges such as the following:

* CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) in the US
* CBOT (Chicago Board of Trade) in the US
* DTB (Deutsche Boerse) in Europe
* MONEP (Euronext Paris) in Europe

The exchanges set the contract specifications for the markets, and process all of the trades on their markets. The exchanges can be accessed directly, but day traders usually use direct access brokerages, which allow the day trader to access all of the different exchanges directly but via the same trading interface. Some popular direct access brokerages are Interactive Brokers, and Transact Futures.

Choosing a Market

Which markets you choose to trade will depend upon several factors, including your initial financial state, your trading system, your personality, and your geographical location. Some markets are better suited to new day traders, and some markets are better suited to experienced day traders. As a beginning day trader, you will want to start with a market that has low margin requirements, a low tick value, and moves at a medium pace. The article Choosing a Market will detail the most popular markets, and help you choose the market that is right for you.

Should I Declare Bankruptcy?

Bankruptcy is often thought of as something to be avoided at all costs. However, if you have unsecured personal debts which you cannot repay, it could the best way to solve your financial difficulties.

According to the Insolvency Service, approximately 6000 people declare bankruptcy every month in England and Wales. Once declared bankrupt, an individual's debts are taken away from them and after a year, written off completely. Despite this, many people write off bankruptcy as a solution to resolve their debt because they believe that it will mean that they will lose their home and possessions.

The reality is that in very many cases this is just does not happen and bankruptcy is often the best option to resolve an unsecured debt problem.

Tenants are unlikely to lose their property

If you are a tenant you can declare bankruptcy with little or no risk of losing your home. If you rent from the local Council or Housing Association, then as long as you maintain your monthly rent payments, you will certainly be able to stay in your property if you are bankrupt.

If you rent privately, your landlord will be told that you are bankrupt. The majority of private landlords will not have a problem with this as long as you maintain your rent payments.

Property owners with no equity

The worry about bankruptcy if you are a homeowner is that you will have to give up any equity you have in the property. This very often means that the house has to be sold. However, if you have little or no equity, you will normally be able to keep your house. In these circumstances you can buy back the title to your property for a nominal fee meaning there is no risk to your property in the future either.

Will I lose personal possessions?

It is a myth that if you declare bankruptcy, things such as your washing machine, TV and furniture will be taken away. Household goods will only be taken if they are extremely valuable (for example an expensive painting or antique furniture). As such, the majority of people do not have to worry about losing any of their personal possessions

The only asset that does need to be considered carefully is a private car. If you own a car valued above £1,500 it may be at risk. However, this does not mean that you will automatically lose the vehicle. If there is a specific reason for its requirement, you may be able to keep it. Alternatively a friend or family member could offer to pay any amount of its value over £1,500 thus avoiding its loss.

What if I am a Director?

There are of course some occasions when bankruptcy may not be the right option. This is particularly the case for company directors. If you are a director and wish to remain in this position you cannot declare bankruptcy. Bankrupt individuals are not allowed to act as company directors or act in the capacity of managing a limited company for the period covered by their bankruptcy (normally 12 months).

In addition, there is a certain amount of publicity surrounding bankruptcy. As a bankrupt, your name is advertised in the local newspaper. In addition you are added to the insolvency register which is publicly accessible via the internet.

Clearly, bankruptcy is not right for everyone. However, it is an extremely useful debt solution for many people and certainly should not be overlooked because of misconceptions based on a lack of understanding.

If you are struggling with unsecured personal debt, you should certainly familiarise yourself with bankruptcy and whether it might be right for you.

Kitchen Tips

# If you are not sure about the quantity of water to be added while cooking rice, it would be a safe bet to keep the water level 2.5 cm, above the rice level.

# Add a teaspoon of Ghee to the almost cooked rice before removing it from heat. The aroma that arises is very appetizing.

# Add one or two bay leaves, 1 crushed Cardamoms and 1” piece Cinnamon to Rice and cook. All these spices add a great flavor to the rice without coloring it
# Wrap vegetables in newspapers before storing in refrigerator. They remain fresh for a long time.

# If you need Sour Cream urgently, add lemon juice to fresh cream and mix lightly.

# When you are all set to make ice cream, turn the refrigerator to its coldest setting an hour before you need to freeze the ice cream. Turn it back to normal when the ice cream is set.

What is Day Trading?

Day trading (and trading in general) is the buying and selling of various financial instruments, such as futures, options, currencies, and stocks, with the goal of making a profit from the difference between the buying price and the selling price. Day trading differs slightly from other styles of trading in that positions are rarely (if ever) held overnight or when the market being traded is closed.

Day trading was originally only available to financial companies (such as banks), because only they had access to the exchanges and market data. But with recent technology such as the Internet, individual traders now have direct access to the same exchanges and market data, and can make the same trades at very low cost.

Trading Styles

There are several different styles of day trading, suited to different day trader personalities. The styles range from short term trading such as scalping where positions are only held for a few seconds or minutes, to longer term swing and position trading where a position may be held throughout the trading day. Most day trading systems have a lot of flexibility, and can have open positions for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, depending upon how the trade is doing (whether it is in profit). Some day traders will trade multiple styles, but most traders will choose a single style and only take that type of trade.

Day trading also has different types of trade, such as trend trades, counter-trend trades, and ranging trades. Trend trades are trades in the direction of the current price movement (i.e. buying if the price is moving up), and counter-trend trades are trades against the direction of the current price movement (i.e. selling if the price is moving up). Ranging trades are trades that go back and forth between two prices, and are used when the market is moving sideways. Most day traders will choose a single type of trade, but some traders will take different types, and choose which one to trade depending upon the current condition of the market.

In addition to the style and type of day trading, there are other variances between day traders. Some day traders like to make many trades throughout the trading day, while others prefer to wait for what they consider the best conditions for their trade, and perhaps only make one trade per day. However many trades are made, the trading process that is used, and the desired goal of making a profit, are the same.
Markets

There are many different financial instruments, or markets, that can be day traded, and they are offered by various exchanges throughout the world. The main types of day trading markets are futures, options, currencies, and stock markets. Within these types, there are groups of markets based on stock indexes (such as the Dow Jones, and the DAX), currency exchange rates (such as the Euro to US Dollar exchange rate), and commodities (such as gold, and oil). Day traders can have access to all of the exchanges and their markets via direct access brokers, so called because they offer direct access to the exchange, which provides faster trade execution at lower cost. Further information about the available markets can be found in the article Which Markets can be Day Traded?, and details of the most popular day trading markets are available in the Market Profiles category.

3 Important Ways You Must Do Now To Start Saving For Retirement Before It Is Too Late

Many people want to save for their retirement but never get around to it until it is too late. There are three ways you can save for your retirement without feeling the crimp.

First, balance your budget. Many people do not have a budget much less a way to balance it. However, if you start with knowledge of where your money is going you can understand what to do with it. There is a reason to have a budget. To track your spending. If you cannot track your spending then you cannot save for retirement.

Second, switch an expense into retirement "spending". People do not like to "save". It doesn't feel as good as "spending". Why not think of it this way - you are spending today for your future by putting the money away in an account. It's easy if you do things like cut your cable bill and turn it into your retirement account.

The third way is to put the money in the right place. Some people think there is one right way to save for retirement but that is not correct. You can simply put the money in a savings account or you can put it in the stock market. There are different levels of risk associated with that of course.

So you need to figure out how you feel about risk before making that decision. People who are young have more time in their life and thus they can take the time to try riskier investments like stocks. People who are older have less time left so they need to work on a plan to save their savings.

Wow, so there are plenty of different ways of saving for retirement, but it all boils down to the budget, the savings and the investments. When you have a plan you can make better decisions. It is no longer taking a blind dive down the track. Rather, you are planning out your life and set onto a track that can help you avoid mistakes. Taking a look before you leap is important. Tremendous life decisions are easier to make with the right information.
